For large e-commerce platforms, the problem is not lack of users or traffic. The problem is that growth from existing categories is slowing down.

At a certain point, acquisition becomes more expensive, while conversion improvements only deliver marginal gains. This creates a very practical question for large platform owners:

How do we generate more revenue from the users we already have, without relying only on scaling existing product categories or increasing marketing spend?

This is why Allegro started looking at new verticals. Not for diversification, but because existing traffic needs to generate more revenue than it does today.

This is the context in which Axabee, through its travel-focused brand Resabee Travel Tech, delivered a solution in cooperation with ITAKA. The goal was to enable travel sales directly within the platform and unlock a new revenue stream from existing users.

Entering travel without starting from zero

Instead of building a new business line from scratch, Allegro can extend its existing ecosystem. Travel offers are presented directly within the marketplace, using the same environment that users already know. The platform already has traffic. What it needs is the right product and infrastructure to monetize it in a new category.

Why travel not "just another category"?

Travel products are fundamentally different from standard e-commerce. A single holiday package combines accommodation, transport, availability, and pricing.

This complexity is the main reason why many marketplaces hesitate to enter this space. It requires systems that can handle constantly changing data and dependencies between multiple components.

On top of the technical layer, there is also a commercial and operational barrier. Marketplaces need direct agreements with aggregators and suppliers, and access is not automatic. Partners must meet specific requirements, and onboarding often involves a lengthy certification and approval process, which can significantly slow down or block market entry.

Axabee with over 13 years of experience in travel technology delivered a proven architecture that manages this complexity and integrates with marketplace systems.

From idea to a working revenue stream

Technology alone is not enough. To make a new category work, you also need supply.

Cooperation with ITAKA ensures access to ready-to-sell travel offers from day one. This means the category is not just technically available, but commercially viable immediately.

For Allegro, this translates into a new source of revenue that uses existing traffic and user behavior, without the need for long development cycles.

The cost of waiting

For large platforms, the question is not whether to expand into new categories, but how fast it can be done.

Marketplaces that delay these decisions risk slower growth and losing new revenue streams to competitors who move earlier.

This project shows a different approach. Instead of building everything internally, large platforms can use proven solutions that allow them to enter complex categories like travel faster, with less risk and a clearer path to monetization.
